Hiring Manager
Meridian Freight Systems
1400 Harbor Avenue, Suite 400
Chicago, IL 60605
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to apply for the Operations Manager, Network Control role at Meridian Freight Systems. I want this job because Meridian is consolidating three regional dispatch desks into one control tower — the same class of problem I have been solving as Senior Operations Systems Manager at Apex Logistics Network.
At Apex I direct 14 coordinators and dispatch specialists handling more than 12,000 shipments a month. We replaced a 4.5-hour manual intake path with an automated pipeline that now takes 22 minutes, saving about 180 labor hours each month. Those are the same muscles Meridian will need while the control tower is standing up: named owners, measurable cycle time, and operating documents people actually follow.
I also know what not to promise. I do not claim a tool “guarantees” service levels. I do claim I can bring a documented operating cadence — status, exceptions, and a named sponsor — so the tower does not live in chat.
I would welcome a conversation about Meridian’s Q1 control-tower timeline. Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Elena Vance

How to use this ZuffSuite template
Name the employer and role in the first paragraph. Give one or two pieces of evidence. Close without begging. Keep it to one page.
Best practices
- Tailor the first paragraph to the posting.
- Use evidence the resume also supports — do not invent a second biography.
- Keep typography professional and quiet.
Common mistakes
- A letter that could be sent to any company by swapping the name.
- Graphics, photos, or tables used as a layout grid.
- Claiming you will “crush ATS” or guaranteeing an interview.

Cover Letter vs. Resume
The resume is the record. The letter is the argument for this opening. Use the ATS-Friendly Resume for experienced professionals and the Entry-Level Resume when projects and coursework carry more weight. ATS-Friendly Resume
Questions people actually ask
- Do I always need a cover letter?
- Not always. Include one when the employer asks, when the posting is a stretch, or when a referral needs context. Keep it optional and short otherwise.
- How long should it be?
- Usually one page. If you need a second page, you are restating the resume.
