What happens to transparency
JPG has no transparency channel, so every transparent or semi-transparent pixel has to be blended onto a solid colour. Some converters silently use black. Here the background is white unless you choose otherwise, and the preview shows the exact blend — including soft anti-aliased edges — before you convert.
If you need to keep the transparent background, stay with PNG (or use WebP for the web).
Choosing a quality
For photos saved as PNG, JPG at 85–92% is often dramatically smaller with no visible difference. For screenshots with sharp text, use a higher quality (90%+) — JPEG can show faint halos around high-contrast edges at low quality.
