Free College Assignment Tracker
Track college assignments by course, due date, priority, status, and next action with a free Excel assignment tracker that includes overdue formulas and fictional examples.
A look inside the resource
| Assignment | Priority | Due / status |
|---|---|---|
| Source analysis | High | Oct 23 · In progress |
| Problem set 4 | Medium | Oct 27 · To do |
How to use this resource
- Add one row for each deliverable, quiz, reading response, or project checkpoint that has a real due date.
- Choose a priority based on urgency and effort, then write the next action as a small verb-led step.
- Update Status as work changes. The Timing column flags dates that have passed when an item is not marked Done.
- Use the dashboard totals to spot a backlog; confirm the result against your syllabus and learning platform.
A task list, not a semester calendar
This tracker is designed for operational detail: one row per piece of work, with a next action and a completion status. Use the semester planner when you need course context, week-by-week planning, and term milestones. The two downloads work together, but neither requires the other.
Make the next action concrete
Replace a vague task like “work on paper” with something you can start: “compare two source methods” or “draft the opening paragraph.” A visible next action reduces the time spent figuring out how to begin.
Let due dates guide attention
Priority is a judgment about what needs attention; an overdue indicator is a date calculation. Use both, and review your course instructions before changing any deadline or deciding what to submit.
Worked example
A practical example
A fictional BIO 110 student adds “Source analysis” due October 23, sets priority to High, marks it In progress, and writes “compare the methods in sources 2 and 3” as the next action. The example uses invented coursework and should be replaced with your real assignment details.
Common questions
How is this different from the semester planner?
The assignment tracker focuses on one deliverable per row, with priority, status, overdue flags, and next actions. The semester planner adds courses, term milestones, and weekly time blocks.
Does the overdue indicator change my assignment status?
No. The formula reports that a due date has passed while an item is unfinished. You choose the status and should follow your instructor's deadline and extension policies.
