How to use the Cornell notes method
During a lecture, record key ideas, examples, and questions in the wider notes column. After class, write short prompts or keywords in the cue column and summarize the main ideas at the bottom. During review, cover the notes, answer a cue from memory, then uncover the notes to check and correct your explanation.
Review your notes after class
Set aside a short review while the lecture is still familiar. Turn headings into questions, mark places where you need to check a detail, and write a concise summary without copying whole paragraphs. Revisit the cues later and try to answer before rereading.
Choose a layout for the task
The classic Cornell page supports questions, lecture notes, and a summary. The lecture template gives more room for an outline, terms, and follow-up questions. The study-review template pairs recall prompts with answers from memory and a correction step. Use the layout that fits the course and instructor's requirements.
Print and edit the pack
The six-page PDF includes three blank templates and three clearly labeled fictional examples. The editable HTML file opens locally in a browser; its fields stay on your device and are not sent to ZuffSuite. You can save a completed copy or print the editable pages to PDF.
Fictional worked example
A practical example
The Cornell example uses an invented Environmental Science lecture about urban heat islands. It shows how a cue such as 'Which features cool a street?' can connect to notes about shade, plants, and street design. The example is only a layout demonstration, not a course handout or sourced research finding.
Common questions
What goes in the Cornell notes cue column?
Add questions, keywords, or short prompts that help you recall the notes in the wider column. Write them after class so they reflect the ideas you need to review.
Does the PDF include blank and completed examples?
Yes. Pages 1, 3, and 5 are blank Cornell, lecture, and study-review templates. Pages 2, 4, and 6 are labeled fictional examples.
Can I edit the templates?
Yes. Open the HTML pack in a browser, click an outlined area to type, then save a completed copy or print it. The HTML works locally and does not send your notes to ZuffSuite.
Can I use the pack for any subject?
You can adapt the layouts, but follow your instructor's requirements. Add equations and worked steps, diagrams and units, or claims and source details where the subject needs them.
