How to use the HEIC to PNG converter

  1. Step 1

    Open this tool in Safari

Choose Safari on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad that can open HEIC photos. Chrome and Edge do not get an additional software decoder from this page.

  2. Step 2

    Add HEIC photos

Select one photo or a batch. Safari decodes each image on your device and the converter keeps its pixel dimensions.

  3. Step 3

    Download PNG files

Save photos individually or as one ZIP. PNG is lossless from the decoded pixels but can be much larger than HEIC.

When HEIC to PNG helps

HEIC stores iPhone photos efficiently, while PNG is widely accepted by image editors and workflows that need transparency-capable files. PNG conversion is useful for compatibility, although a photo saved as PNG can take much more space.

The output contains the decoded image pixels, not the original HEIC container or all of its camera metadata. Orientation is applied by the supported browser decoder.

Browser support and decoder licensing

This page relies on the browser's native HEIC decoder and is supported in Safari on compatible Apple devices. Other browsers may reject HEIC before conversion.

A separate WebAssembly HEIC decoder was not enabled because the candidate bundled decoder in the repository is still awaiting legal review. The page reports the browser limitation instead of silently switching to a server or third-party service.

Questions about HEIC to PNG

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser: your files are read and converted on your own device and are never sent to ZuffSuite. The page downloads the conversion code it needs, then works on the files locally. Closing or reloading the tab discards everything.

Can Chrome or Edge on Windows convert HEIC here?

No. This version relies on native HEIC decoding in Safari on supported Apple devices. It does not upload files or load a separate HEIC decoder in Windows browsers.

Will PNG be smaller than HEIC?

Usually not for photos. PNG preserves decoded pixels without lossy compression and can be much larger than the efficient HEIC original.

Are iPhone photos rotated correctly?

The browser applies image orientation when it decodes the HEIC. Unusual HEIF variants can still fail to open.

Does PNG keep the original camera metadata?

No. The output is built from decoded pixels, so the source HEIC metadata is not copied.
