WebP for graphics
WebP can store transparency and often makes web graphics smaller than PNG. Results depend on the artwork and quality setting, so compare the measured output rather than expecting a fixed reduction.
The converter keeps the source pixel dimensions and alpha transparency. It uses the image encoder built into your browser and does not upload the PNG.
Lossless versus quality-based WebP
WebP defines both lossy and lossless encodings, but the standard browser canvas encoder used here exposes a quality value rather than a reliable lossless switch. This tool therefore labels the control as quality and does not promise pixel-exact output.
If you need the original PNG pixels unchanged, keep the PNG. If the WebP result is larger, the size comparison tells you so before download.
