Why use WebP for a website?
WebP is supported by modern browsers and can reduce image transfer sizes in many cases. Smaller image files can help a site deliver its pages more efficiently, but the savings depend on the source photo and encoding quality.
This converter reports the measured result for each photo. It does not claim a fixed percentage saving: some WebP files can be as large as, or larger than, the JPG source.
Quality, dimensions, and metadata
The quality control changes the browser's lossy WebP encoding. The image dimensions stay the same, while metadata such as camera details is not carried into the new file.
Use the original JPG when you need its embedded metadata or want to avoid another lossy encoding step. For a website, compare the output visually and by size before replacing a source asset.
